Meyers Pool is being replaced!

Photo curtesy of Apex Park and Recreation District

The George J. Meyers Swimming Center (Meyers Pool) at 7900 Carr St. is a 50-meter aquatics facility owned by the City of Arvada and operated and maintained by the Apex Park and Recreation District. The regional facility hosts a wide variety of events and users, including swim lessons, competitive swimming events, recreational lap swimmers, and swim classes.

Teams from the City of Arvada, Apex Park and Recreation District and JeffCo Public Schools have been meeting to discuss the future of the pool. The facility is reaching the end of its lifespan and these partners have set a goal to replace it with a new 50-meter natatorium.

While still in the design phase, the following has been decided:

  • The current facility will remain open during the majority of construction of the new facility.
  • The new facility will be located in adjacent to the current facility.
  • After the new pool is operational, the existing pool will be demolished and a new parking lot built on the site.
  • Construction is anticipated to begin in early to mid 2023. Project completion is anticipated to be in late 2024 to early 2025.

New structure, new pool , NEW name

by DSK, about 1 month ago
The name George Meyers was chosen as a memorial while the pool was under construction and Mr. Meyers suddenly passed away. He was a high school teacher and Summer Arvada pool employee. He could not even swim but was a friend to many who mourned his passing.

The 50 meter pool was the 4th to be built in Arvada under the direction of Coach Ken Kelley.
The Jeffco swim team, parents and Ken Kelley raised the funds, watched the pool be built and swam to 25 Colorado state swimming championships . The 50 meter pool was one of the first... Continue reading

From learning to SCUBA dive to swim meets

by Steven R., about 1 month ago
When I was 12, I took SCUBA lessons and meyers pool was the place we did our confined water dive. Once I was a junior in high school, I’d ride my bike from 58th ave all the way to meyers pool each morning for practice on the Arvada High swim team. In the winter it was where I’d get the opportunity to work on my white water kayaking skills when they’d hold sessions for practice. I’ll miss the smell of the water and the chilly mornings will live in my memory forever! It was always nice finding a warm jet... Continue reading

    Mothers For Ken

    by MKelley, 2 months ago
We four are swim team mothers, only a few of many over the years, having met on the bleachers of Ralston Pool when our kids were eight and younger and swimming for Ulla Stumpp. We watched them grow and move to Steve Drozda. By then, Meyers pool had been built (1979) and our kids were anxious to move to Ken Kelley's White Team. He had high expectations that included a grueling work ethic, responsibility, and accountability. We parents learned that our jobs were carpooling, healthy meals, encouragement, support, and cheerleading. As high school came to an end, many white-teamers were... Continue reading

Meyers Pool has been in my life for the last 30+ years. Going to this pool has been filled with excellent experiences. Whether it has been for myself, Family, Government or Organizational uses Meyers Pool has fulfilled a multitude of needs for all in Colorado.

My personal uses of Meyer Pool started well before I moved to Arvada and became an active community member. As an adult educator, parent or youth group organizer and volunteer I've been to all kinds of events at Meyers Pool. From State Swim Meets, 7 AM practices, kayaking, lap swims, or even scuba certifications. I've... Continue reading

The dream from the ground up

    by DSK, 6 months ago
Ken Kelley supervised the building of 5 pools in Arvada. His motivation and successful accomplishment was the 50 meter pool, the first in the state. He went on to coach the NorthJeffco Seahorses swimmers to over 25 state swimming championships. Banners hung from the rafters every year to show the success of so many swimmers. Many who he coached went on to college swimming scholarships. Many are now coaches themselves and brag about their swimming under coach Ken.

Coach Ken Kelley, this year was inducted into the Colorado Swimmers Hall of Fame.

Swimming at Meyers Pool During my Childhood

by Zachary Stephens , 7 months ago
I can recall having minimal or full days off from school and coming here with my friend in the 1990s and swimming. I haven't been swimming here in almost 3 decades and would love to come back before the location is updated!

    Two generations of swimming lessons

    by checkma, 7 months ago

28 years ago, we registered our two daughters for swimming lessons at Meyers Pool. The employees and instructors were great. Five years ago, we had the privilege of taking our grandson to swimming lessons there. It was comforting to see that the employees and instructors were still very nice and good with the children. Two generations of our family learned to swim at Meyers Pool. Great job and keep up the good work in the new facility!

    Character development via swimming instruction

    by CAROTR, 9 months ago
My journey in aquatics started with lessons at the pool on Ralston Road and Garrison. I never passed Life guard classes, but had cleared all classes up to that level. I lived in that pool in the summers in my youth, walking with friends to enjoy the hot afternoons with a dip in those cool waters. Since I could swim, I enjoyed the deep end as is was more sparsely populated on a hot day. One thrill was accompanying my sister to work there as a lifeguard on opening day and being the very first customer in the water!!

    Both... Continue reading

    Great Job

by Jean peebles, 9 months ago
I worked at Meyers for 6 1/2 happy years. I enjoyed the many guests I got to know over that time and looked forward to seeing so many committed to their swim fitness. The swim meets were especially fun and I came to admire the commitment of the many swimmers and coaches I watched practice and compete. Although I was about 50 years older than most of the staff, I came to love and appreciate these hard working kids. I don’t think they realized they could save a persons life……it is a huge responsibility and they surpassed all expectations as... Continue reading
