Meyers Pool is being replaced!

The George J. Meyers Swimming Center (Meyers Pool) at 7900 Carr St. is a 50-meter aquatics facility owned by the City of Arvada and operated and maintained by the Apex Park and Recreation District. The regional facility hosts a wide variety of events and users, including swim lessons, competitive swimming events, recreational lap swimmers, and swim classes.

Teams from the City of Arvada, Apex Park and Recreation District and JeffCo Public Schools have been meeting to discuss the future of the pool. The facility is reaching the end of its lifespan and these partners have set a goal to replace it with a new 50-meter natatorium.

While still in the design phase, the following has been decided:

  • The current facility will remain open during the majority of construction of the new facility.
  • The new facility will be located in adjacent to the current facility.
  • After the new pool is operational, the existing pool will be demolished and a new parking lot built on the site.
  • Construction is anticipated to begin in early to mid 2023. Project completion is anticipated to be in late 2024 to early 2025.

    Appreciation for Meyers

by Lap Swimmer, 10 months ago

I have been swimming morning laps at Meyers Pool for 43 years. When I started, management was decommissioning the old system of checking in your belongings, in numbered baskets, with an attendant near the dressing rooms, and installing lockers for self-storage. Originally, there were four shower heads around a central post in the middle of the shower room; eventually the shower heads were distributed around the walls, a much better arrangement. One day years ago I arrived to find the pool closed indefinitely because an inspection found the arching wood support beams were structurally compromised due to the humidity in... Continue reading

    by JCO, 10 months ago
Fun memory at Meyers Pool was doing snow angels outside in the snow in our bathing suits after masters swim practice.

    For the love of swimming

    by shelleyc39, 11 months ago
The first time I stepped into Meyers pool was in late 1981 toting our 6 month old daughter with me. We had recently moved to Colorado and were headed to parent/baby swim lessons. So began many hours spent at Meyers pool. When we moved to the Club Crest area in 1990 it was even more convenient to spend time there. Our then 9 year old daughter and 6 year old son along with friends spent many happy hours swimming and diving there. Our son went on to take lifeguard lessons and was employed at Meyers in various jobs until 2020... Continue reading

I took algebra from George Meyers at Arvada High School (Carr St. and Ralston Road). He was an excellent teacher. Because of the preparation I received from George, I was able to gain admission to the Colorado School of Mines. I graduated from Mines in 1968, and now I teach there.

    George Meyer Memories

by Jack R, 12 months ago
Back in 1976 I worked at the North Jeffco Swimming Pool on Ralston Rd. George was the Sr. Manager of the pool and was always a fun and interesting guy. He had a great tan and would wander around casually in shorts and flip flops. I don't recall a single employee or customer who ever had a bad thing to say about him. Unfortunately he was a smoker, which probably led to his untimely death.

He was also an Assistant Principal at Arvada High School and he always took time to say hi or chat when he saw me in... Continue reading
