We are nearly one year into the pandemic. Arvada has stayed strong, and we must continue to stay strong. As each of us moves into the next phase of the pandemic, we have the opportunity to continue to protect ourselves and all those around us. We can do that by continuing to wear masks, to social distance, to follow CDC guidelines, and to continue to find the silver linings and the challenges of the changes we are experiencing. We are inviting you to join us in this effort. Share your ideas and stories, as we continue to prove that #WeCanDoThisArvada! We may share your ideas on other platforms as inspiration to others!

Virtual Educational workshops
We have a ton of great leaders, skills and knowledge within our community and with people being home much more, we are trying new ideas and projects. Let's work in getting local citizens to host a class on whatever they are experts on. For example, I work in the disaster space meaning I work in responding to floods, fires, hurricanes, etc and I could host a prepping class to ensure everyone has an emergency kit, or show tricks to better prepare your home in case something bad happens. Other ideas: canning veggies, doing a window herb winter garden, how to winterize your home, how to cook something, how do to an oil change, etc. this is a great way to bring your community together (virtually) while educating them!

Big light displays!
Do more with lights and yard displays this year! It would be so fun to invite people to drive by and enjoy lights in a certain neighborhood. Maybe the city could coordinate a map for folks to drive past the ones that are participating.

Partner with Team Depot for winter market
Using the "team depot" department of our local home depot to get donated lumber to build sheds for the winter market. then use those materials to do a community build day. Creating the winter market together to show solidarity and local business support will help bring our community together to share the holiday love! Challenges: many. Successes: some
It is a challenge to temper worries when things keep shifting; to accept that many things we took for granted have been taken away or altered; to don that mask every time we leave the house; to shy away from people rather than openly greet them. The successes include tapping into tools that help calm the worries; finding ways to "connect" with people safely and remotely; and purchasing colorful masks so that wearing them isn't so bad!
